How long to practice song with vowels only

Any guidance there, how long to practice a song without introducing any consonants. Just discovering this and seeing how important it it for open throat muscle memory to practice it this way, but words are words, after all.

Just doing it to begin with is important. Go through the whole song, especially parts that might seem too high for you, and prove that you can sing the vowels that high. Then, when you have proven the whole song out, and gotten contiguous phrases going, lightly add back the consonants, while retaining that sustain from note-to-note. Once you realize how well this works, you can automatically and instinctively do that when singing. It will seem like the most natural way to sing. you won't be overemphasizing consonants, and you'll automatically sustain vowels longer.
