  He's "leaning into it" as Ken likes to say. It's mostly supporting well, and keeping the cords closed pretty tightly, so that it kind of makes a grindy, gritty sound.

  Oddly, at about 2:21, it's the same part of the verse as at 1:21, and he does the same "Leaning into it" there too.
