Should I start gigging without a head voice technique?

Hello
I really want to start gigging regularly. I play guitar and use the capo to drop the key down so I can sing the 'high' part of the song.
My question to an expert out there is. Should I wait to develop head voice first so I can sing high notes comfortably, then start gigging? If I get gigging and I am singing in a lower key I may never develop my voice because I'm saying to myself 'I can play in a pub for two hours pretty comfortably, I don't need to really master head voice' will just get into bad habits that actually inhibit the correct technique to sing higher comfortably?
