Mix Voice Without Mask

Hi, according to Ken Tamplin approach to developing mix voice. Open throat, support, bright ping, and using "Ah" vowel. Does it literally works without mask? cause i'm not sure about it, i can still mix head and chest registration without using mask or maybe i'm actually using mask spontanious.
