How do you smoothen your mixed voice?

When I sing in my mixed voice, it sounds loud, but it also sounds scratchy, thin, and annoying. How do you smoothen out the sound so your mixed voice sounds better? Do I have to improve my head voice or chest voice before trying to improve my mixed voice? Or is there another technique?

Yes and yes. You need to strengthen your head voice and you need to strengthen your chest voice for you to create a proper mix voice. Mix is a result of head AND chest voice, so it makes sense that either one of these being weak will lead to weak mix. Which one is the weak one is something that you will have to determine.
