My voice is always raspy. What can I do to get rid of this?

My voice is always raspy. What can I do to get rid of this? When I sing songs I normally can sing, now I can't and it sounds like i am dying. I am about to give up. My voice has been like this for awhile. When I try to flip form chest, to head, it gets worse.
