Do you take the breathe when singing from the mouth or only for your nose?

I once had a friend who told me that the right way to breathe when singing was through your nose only; however, for me it's really hard to do so only from there. Is it ok to take the breathe from your mouth as well?

It is considered the best way to keep your vocal tract hydrated since breathing through the nose warms and adds moisture to your breath (and possibly more oxygen as well?). Obviously its not always practical if you are performing a high energy show. Its more something to keep in mind. If you are just doing scales then try to take the breath through the nose
