Sing With Mask/Nasal Resonance

Many vocal teachers at my place taught me not to sing with the nose, for years I practiced singing without the nose, it became a problem, I had difficulty controlling the tone, singing in the second passaggio became very difficult. However, in the past few months I have read about nasal resonance or maybe mask placement?
What I concluded was letting a little air pass through the nose while maintaining an open throat or controlling the larynx position.
Although I haven't really mastered it, I ventured to use this technique on the stage. So far, I have found it helpful to sing with a little nose. But, I'm not really sure about my understanding of mask placement.

Sorry I didn't want to disturb my neighbors so I sang it very lightly, maybe to much headvoice.
