Low or high? Song: Picture Postcards from LA

I would really love to sing this 90s song:

But this is the first time I can´t find my "right" tone.
Don´t know if I should practice it in low voice:

But here I wonder if I should go really high with the refrain? (Don´t know but I have the feeling its gets much too high then)

As you can hear in both versions I always struggle and can not find into the song because while singing I am always wondering if this or that is best

So what do you think on which version I should concentrate for practicing?

This is difficult because I thought you actually had fairly good control with your low register. The higher one didn't seem much of a struggle either. My personal habit is to always try and sing the original key, so that is what I would do here.

So but what is the original key? The low one?
I am not sure ... if he sings higher and his voice just sounds low... or if he sings low and his voice sounds brighter.
