Help ^^ (mixed to head) in male voice*

Hey, a bit confused, as many people can sing high in there mix voice. Is there clear guidance of knowing when to change gear to head voice? Is it pitch dependant/ song dependant or perhaps both?

    Im not that advanced where im training my mixed voice yet, but from my understanding mix voice is part chest and part head, so instead of a gear being shifted, its more about how much or little you want to lean into the sound to create different percentages.
