Accessing Mixed Voice

Hi there,
I have been having difficulty navigating between the vocal break to access my mix. The trouble was that i would either strain and pull chest voice up or abruptly switch into a flutey weak and airy falsetto.
To solve this and bridge the 2 (chest and head) registers together; i heard from a competent vocal coach on youtube that in order to bridge chest up into head voice "a male chest voice should be able to be extended to atleast a g4 before any bridging occurs".
Does this mean to access my mix, i need to extend my chest voice range up into my head voice range or is there other ways to sing in a strong mix?

Stating the obvious, mix voice is a percentage of head and chest. The percentage can change if you have enough control from 50/50 to 90/10. To have a mix voice, you need to have a wide range for head voice and chest voice. Grow chest first because its easier to lose. Say your chest limit is G4, anything after that is going to be all head or very head dominant because you cant bring your chest above it and use it to mix.
The same goes for head voice, if you cant bring your head voice down past G4, then there will be very little mixing done. The mix is also around one of the weakest parts of your voice which is the second passagio between chest and head. If you cant bridge smoothly, your mix will likely yodel or you will default into what is easiest for you for the note. Keeping the passagio smooth is the first step in getting a stronger mix. Controlling those percentages and keeping the throat open is the art, all while keeping good support and tone.
