Hey guys.. Having a lot of fun on this new journey of learning to sing and play guitar. Started playing and trying to learn around when Covid hit.
Here's a demo of me singing a song by Riley Green: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cepc6b9warhjjp7/Recording (2).m4a?dl=0
Here's my question on style and music choice.. I find it much easier and more comfortable to sing Riley Green songs. The melodies are simpler and it involves less dynamics. I am still really new, but I listen to recordings of me singing these types of songs and after some work I can usually be decently happy with progress on them. On the other hand, when I try to sing Sam Hunt songs I find it very difficult to sound decent.
For example, here's a song I'd love to sound good singing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcIIYYw2wm8
My question is on whether the style of Riley green could just fit my voice better and if I should stick to those types of songs, or if me having an easier time singing his types of songs and having trouble with Sam Hunt's is more due to my lack of experience and just having less practice/training in my voice.

I am not sure I can answer you question, but I had a listen to your recording and you have a really nice tone to your voice mate. I certainly does suit that style. Ken is able to sing many styles using the techniques he has developed, so I would think it is possible. It may take some deep analysis of your target song to identify what makes it sound the way it does. The phrasing, vowel mods, mask etc...
Have you watched any of the Isolated Vocal breakdown series Ken as been doing on his YouTube channel? Maybe you could find one in the style you want to do, it could be helpful to hear Ken break it down
Regards,
Scotty
I agree with Scotty: great tone to your voice.

Hey mate, I meant to ask you, if you are into country, have you seen any of fellow KTVA student Jordana's stuff?
She has a YouTube channel with some really great songs on there, here is an awesome cover she did:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mgxb3pVCdBg
She also has her own songs on the channel. I can't get over how talented she is. I had only seen her skype lesson with Ken and then stumbled across the song above on YouTube, and man what an authentic sound she has. Perfect phrasing, emoting the story, such a mature vocal.
Here is her lesson with Ken if you are interested in the technique shes learning, and then compare that to how she uses it to get that authentic sound above for the style of music she is doing:
