Low Voice Range - How to approach KTVA exercises

Low Voice Register - (G#1, topping out at D#4) (Approx 4mnths into course...just starting Vol.2 exercises) My issue/query is that I'm finding many of the exercises are beginning in a part of the register that is close to the high end of my vocal range. Is it more practical for me to do the exercises an octave below? Or commence on pitch with the exercise then drop down an octave once I reach my high note ceiling? Thnx
