Rib cage expansion (1/2 to 3/4 of air or posture? Before abs)

I fully feel the lower transverse and pelvic floor kinda low abdominal muscles and I get the lower half but when ken says the chest is 1/2 to 3/4 full does this mean he quickly breathes In his chest to expand his ribs of air before breathing from the lower half to sing or does he mean his posture is positioning his ribs in this 1/2 to 3/4 full shape and no upper chest breath is needed then breathing from the lower abdominals after to sing.
I watched the rib cage expansion video and I’m still a little confused if I only breathe from the solar plexus down to abdomen (full abdomen only) or I do that quick chest breath before the abdominal support also?
Cheers
