How to refrain from going into head voice during KTVA vocal workouts?

I've been doing the KTVA for a few weeks, mainly doing the audio workouts. I recently started reading the PDF that comes with the program, and it says the first time you run through the audio workouts each day, the goal is to stretch the chest voice by refraining from going into head voice. I'm a total beginner, and I have no clue how to tell if I am staying in my chest voice as the scales get higher. Any advice would be much appreciated :)
