Hello, I’m 48 years old. I’ve wanted to sing all my life but for one reason or another I’ve not done it.
I’ve recently joined a couple of bands and I’m starting to get the guts, I need to sing. I would be grateful for any feed back on the files below.
They’re just basic karaoke and recorded on a phone. It’s the first time singing them and wanted to give you the roughest versions, as that’s what might be heard live.

On the Pat Benatar song I think you might have the problem as I have on many songs. The larynx is placed high and it sounds shouty when it hits the higher notes. The pitch sounds reasonable, but the roundness would likely be better
if the throat was more open, larynx lower and everything was placed further back in the throat. On "right kind of sinner" I would aim to make the AH-vowel as open as possible. One can tell you have the range for that song, so just needs a little bit of polishing.
Here are some tips:
- Try to make the words clearer, especially the consonants. That's really important! It lets people understand what you're singing more. The clearer the words, the more impact it will have on others.
- I'm not familiar with these songs since I listen to only a few select artists, but when you hit the higher notes, I would try a headier tone. An example to help with that is imagining a piano standing before you, and then "lifting" it up while singing.
Hope this helps!
