Advices for a song I can't do really well

FrankLapaliceFrankLapalice Member Posts: 30
Hi guys, I'm currently singing Just Like Heaven by The Cure for a concert, that will take place in a month. I don't think I'm singing it very well, so I would like to hear what I'm technically doing wrong.
Thank in advance. (I'm a begginer, I've been taking singing lessons for a year, more or less).
(I put it in the wrong section by mistake)

    Hi Frank

Are you doing the KTVA course? If so, how far through are you? What are the main lessons you’ve learned? What are you working on with this song?

Hi Charlie, currently I'm not doing the KTVA course. This song was for a concert in April. My main goals were to improve breath support, diaphragmatic breathing, and to get a less breathy and more resonant voice.

hi sorry you didn't get an answer in time for the concert. anyway, you just need more practice in general, it is evident you are not a trained singer, which is normal, even with great information, applying yourself in regular practice etc you need a few years to get good. just stick with it. you can also try the free workout on my profile page to get an idea of how the course is (kind of)

Yea, you're right. Anyway the performance went much better compared to the recording, which, frankly, didn't turn out so great when I listened to it again

    Hi Frank

Sorry: not been on the forums since my last post.

I've been singing all my life. I've tried some face-to-face teaching, and also did another online singing course. But KTVA seems to be the real deal: just listen to him and his students! And the cost is tiny compared to individual lessons.

I'm keen to improve my passagio (bit between chest and head voice). Once I'm strong here, I'll be able to master so many of the pop songs I love. Actually, the aim is then to really develop head voice.

I think I kind of expected this to be easy, but if it takes years of training to become competent as a guitarist, why would it be less for singing?

I'm only about 6 months into the course. I think I'm making some progress, and beginning to see some minor changes in my songs. But I'm pretty confident that if I stick with this course, significant progress will be made.

    Encourage you to sign up!

    HI

it can be difficullt singing to a backing track at times . My advice would be to try and get the original song being played by a piano piece note by note on you tube and learn note by note. and record yourself so you can hear if you have sung the correct note. or get someone else who is musical to tell you if you are singing the correct notes

It doesn't sound too bad just more practise really and learning about timings.

    Hope that helps
