Distortion placement

Hello,
Can I assume that the placement of LAH vowel (and others from the course - ping, brightness, a little of nasal sound) is the only correct to use distortion, to start leaning into the sound? In other words - when using this placement correctly (and support, etc) can I be sure that it is safe to lean into?
Question number two - when you sing with distortion and than you speak, is your speaking voice a little bit raspy for a moment?
Thank you in advance for your replies.
