The second attempt sounded good to me. Initially you started with a lot of air which will not grow the sound as much. When you cut back the air it sounded much better. If you have the headvoice program from the course you can use these exercises to strenghten the headvoice more.
I am not sure if starting with the consonant M is ideal (at 0.04 in the clip). Because M closes the mouth. It would probably be better if you sang it with a H, so like H-EE. Then you will start with a more open setting.
I am not a professional though, so always take my input with a grain of salt.
Okay, thanks for the advice. In this case, I started with a slightly airy sound because I heard a vocal coach say that before hitting that high note, it might be better to start in falsetto to release some tension.
