Growing the Voice

When Ken refers to “growing the voice”, should I take this literally? Does your voice actually physiologically CHANGE as you learn better open throat technique and learn to get your power from the right place? Or is this more of a hyperbole meant to describe the mere technical growth you undergo as a singer?
The reason I ask is, I’m a tenor with a fairly light voice. I have a good ping in my voice at this point, but I feel like it still pails in comparison to the sheer volume and power of other singers around me.

You are training, and thereby developing, your muscles. It takes actual time for that to happen. This is why your age, your physical health, and how consistent you are with your training, makes a difference to the outcome.
