Censorship
I am extremely disappointed in this forum and therefore Ken
I have been a paid customer for four years.
I have read online about Ken deleting posts he doesn’t like etc and censorship.
Well yesterday I posted the following in response to a post about Vocal fatigue and it has been deleted. Therefore I no longer trust this forum itnis not free sleech. I want my money back.
This was my post
Personally, practicing singing for two hours going up and down scales is just too much. Everyone is different but for me warm up voice but for 5,10,15 mins (everyone is different and also diferent in diferent days) but once warmed up @ibrahim244 i spend the 1 or 2 hours i used to spend on scales practicing the difficult parts of the actual song. You are still exercising your voice.
Does a footballer warm up running round the pitch for two hours? No once warm they actually practice the football so they get better at it those specific skills.
Would a pianist (unless a concert pianist maybe) spend two hours on scales? No they spend time working on the actual songs and practice difficult bits over and over to build muscle memory for that part.
For me (hnless maybe you training to be an opera singer) whats the point in practicing scales when you could spend that time on actual songs.
Yes if the idea of the scales is to practice shifting through the passagio well just pick songs that require you to do that and practice those parts over and over.
I see too many saying i can do it in the scales but not apply to real songs. Well thats coz spent 365 hours last year practicing scales when 300 of those hours could have been spent selecting songs that practice the same concepts.
Also the idea of taking chest all the way up as one voice! It is not literal, at some point you have to change your mode and at first it will sound weak and voice will tire quickly. Have to practice at a volume where you can go to the note you want effortlessly not with force and it will be weak at first.
Also practicing to the extent that you have to rest two days!!!! God no how to injure your voice! If going to practice for two hours then have two days off, better to practice 40 mins everybday and not stress the delicate mechanism that is your voice. Of course after a two hour gig then rest but as a general rule dont practice so hard that you need two days rest it is supposed to be effortless.
For me, just from personal experience I apply these self governed rules:
if you hoarse stop,
If you cant do vocal fry after an exercise or maybe hit the normal lows you nornally can, for me rest until you can for a few minutes instead of powering through it.
This is just my personal experience but I guess I have learned to fish 🐟
