Simple recording set-up.

Any tips for a simple recording setup for my computer to sing over karaoke or backing tracks?

I'm not really up to date on some of the DAW software out there now. My stuff is very old and elaborate.

What do some of you use?

I just use Audacity to import instrumental files and record over them.

Currently I'm in the situation described (very little money) so I bought a condenser microphone, the Rode NT-USB that works quite well for the price ($169.00), with included pop filter and tripod desk stand.
This + audacity is enough for karaoke/backing tracks.

Magix Samplitude Studio looks interesting! (unfortunately it doesn't seem to be compatible with Linux)

thanks a lot for your great advice, I will definitely look at Samson mics, also regular XLR microphones + usb interfaces!
