Most prominent 3:00 - end of the chorus
It sounds so airy/raspy? but yet controlled and powerful
Is it a technique he is using on purpose or is it just his voice?
Regardless, sounds amazing

Or
1:00-1:02 has that airyness but compression? I hear it a lot in rock singers that sing softly or airy

Yes, 1:00 - 1:02 has some compression, and he is using a lot of air in this song.
He is still relatively young. He may be damaging his voice, but the damage has not become prominent yet. He could continue to sound good for a few more years and then take a turn for the worse. I hope that does not happen, but it does more often than we would like.
