TommyM Pro Posts: 270The singer from Disturbed totally ripped off Mike Patton in their early days, so I'd suggest checking out Patton's vocal work for a better reference point for those sorts of extended techniques. He also does them more safely but he takes it to extremes.
Anyhow, actually doing the "Ooh-wah-ah-ah-ah" is largely down to placement and controlling your air in staccato streams. Use the "Ooh-wa" as a launchpad to the "ah"'s, the sound itself, for me, is placed around the roof of the mouth and behind the nose; not nasal but bright and sharp sounding. You might find you need to practice getting the rhythm right when it comes to releasing air, but don't go too loud or push to get to the note. It's more of a noise than a note.
It's not very distorted or anything so don't overdrive it or bring too much grit to it lest you blow your voice out. -
