Christmas Challenge

Any of you out there feeling the spirit yet?
Here's the challenge: To get as many members to sing Christmas songs, and post them between Dec.1 - Dec. 23.
It can be just audio. You can add video if you have the capabilities.
I would also love to see the mods participate (lead by example (heh heh)
Anyway it should be a lot of fun, and if you're not in the spirit, it may put you in it.
There are 100s of songs to choose from all withh 100s of variations.

Below is an example. I sang most of this, but let Bon Jovi finish it off.

Peace, Tony

I like the idea of this
I'll see what I can piece together this weekend!

What an interesting video Tony. Did you film and sing at the same time? I like your voice. Never gotten into Bon Jovi, but maybe I should? I dig rock singers with girth in their voice, plus that solo was really melodic. The filming of the landscape and the dolls, accompanied by the rock Christmas song, was strange but somehow oddly soothing.

Awesome idea about getting people involved in this! I too would love to see some vids from the moderators. I am a full time busker, and this December I will be playing three Christmas songs in my repetoire> River by Joni Mitchell, Christmas Lights by Coldplay and Fairytale of New York by The Pogues. I can try to get some footage from the street. Should be fun.
  • The video was some of the decorations in my house. I recorded the song before hand, and added video of the decorations later.
I'm not a huge Bon Jovi fan myself, but I do like the song, and the way he performed it. It was tricky singing to the already recorded song because it starts blind with the vocals. (Thats why it sounds a little messed up at the very begining), but again this was only made as an example.

I hope to see quite a few participate including the mods. It should be fun.

    Peace, Tony
  • @Moftem I always wondered........Is it profitable being a busker?
  • MoftemMoftem Enrolled Posts: 114
@videoace Of course. Technically speaking. It don't cost you much. But unless your act is really good, you have to perform a lot on a near daily basis to make ends meet. If you quit your normal job to become a full time busker that is. You can always just do it on the side for the experience and to bring art to the people. I did that for years before switching to full time. The tips are usually really good on thursday/friday/saturday nights with decent weather.

Here's mine and a small story behind it...
Back in '92 when I did a tour in W Germany, I found myself far away from family and friends, so "I'll Be Home For Christmas" has a bit of sentimental charge to it... probably why I instinctively crooned it??
But I added a bit of natural smoke to colorize it a bit.

So there, a mod has participated

PS - Incidentally, I just realized that the profile picture in SoundCloud was taken in Germany about 5 months before Christmas :-O
  • Sounded really good. I like that smokey sound on melancholy songs. Awesome!
Mine should be done in a couple of days. I'm adding video with it so I'm shooting and editing some still.

    Peace, Tony

Thanks mate... Did it super quickly while the wife was vacuuming upstairs, (can actually hear it at the start LOL) so it was done with no warmup and a first take. I actually like doing that from time to time to push myself to be ready at a moment's notice.

    Cheers

    Phillip
  • Well here's my vid. It's not the greatest, but I had fun doing it.
    Peace!

    That's awesome Tony
Did you do all the background music as well?
    PS - Sweet Iceman!
  • The music was a kareoke track. The Iceman was a winter project I built from a kit, but its loaded with some great hardware, and electronics.
Like my drummer? Bob might get a kick out of him lol

    Peace, Tony

I have some gigs coming up, so I may be able to capture something live. We tend to do Christmas songs this time of year. But we've been off the last couple of weeks, and I'm caught in a 2.0 tsunami!

    Here is mine

I like a lot to sing, and now is the first time when I try to put a record of mine of internet.
I sang directly over a backing track with my voice without a microphone, without any further processing.
I know is not the best, but i think it is in Christmas spirit

Did a quick record on "Christmas don't be late".
Singing with my chipmunk voice on this one, enjoy

Johan Forsblom - Christmas don't be late
  • We're on a roll now! Awesome guys. Thanks for joining in.

@Forsblom Did you use a pitch shifter? or was that your natural voice?

    Peace, Tony

I hope he did it himself! I used to be able to do the helium-shift at will... wonder if I can still do it?
  • I did a version of "ONE" by Three Dog Night, and used a pitch shifter to sound like a chipmunk. There is no way I can sing that high.

@videoace & @Furious_Phil It's my natural voice. Perhaps I should do a quick video describing how to get the chipmunk sound :)

@Furious_Phil I'll do an instruction video about it later (hopefully today), and post it here on the forums. Helping some of our friends to move today, so it will have to be after that.

Merry christmas KTVA. I want this community to be more active so I thought I would chip in as promised. I was going to record myself playing on the street, as I am a busker, but I don't have a phone for doing it and most likely won't get one until next year. So I put this off for too long. I don't even have a Christmas hat! But I hope you can sense so spirit of festivity in this. I did an improvised alteration to the final line of the lyrics that surprised me. I mentioned you guys at KTVA. I hope everyone is doing well. I am going out to sing this song along with many others on the street tonight.

  • @Moftem Nice. I really liked that. Glad you were able to contribute. (Nice mention of KTVA)
No hats required, just the spirit, and the song.
Hopefully you'll do well this holiday season..
Merry Christmas to you, and yours.

I was hoping for a lot more people to participate considering that this is a singing community, but we still have a couple of weeks left (hint, hint) so cmon KTVA. Lets sing!

    Peace, Tony
