Open to Vocal Critique

These are the covers I've been putting out for the past year. I feel like I've improved a lot because last year I couldn't even hit the notes I can today. But what really annoys me is that I sound maybe a little too breathy and my voice tends to crack a bit. Also, I'm not really too confident in my voice to be completely honest. What do you guys think?

Keep in mind, the audio might clip, which I know is not a good thing. You might have to turn down your volume a bit.

It's hard to hear the detail in your voice with all the doubling on it.

@highmtn should I upload just the vocals without the music in the background?

No, we need the music for pitch reference, but when you ask for critique on your voice, we need to hear your voice without a lot of processing or doubling. We can say "Nice double track sound" but that doesn't really say much about the quality of your voice. It sounds good, and technically is very polished. Your true voice should be very easy to hear above the sound of the tracks and effects. It's a nice recording. Good job on that, and what can be heard of your voice sounds pretty accurate. It's hard to comment on the breathiness, for example, and a soloed voice track could reveal some of that, but not so much with it doubled. That covers up too much of the detail. Sounds good for a final mix, but not the best for critiqueing your vocal technique.

You could do a remix, drop the doubling, put the vocal track on top, eliminate any vocal processing you are doing and let us hear your voice better. It sounds like you have put some work into your voice.

@highmtn Ahhh ok. I uploaded two new ones after this was posted and I wanted to see what you thought. I only do some basic EQ on vocal tracks and some reverb.

These sound really good. Again, in several parts there are layered vocals and it's hard to tell what you're doing live. Your growl parts don't sound like you're using very safe technique. Although your voice is fine now, you may find that after months or years of doing that sound that it has a detrimental effect on your ability to sing clean vocals.

Good job on your songs in general.
