I could've sworn I commented on this yesterday when you put it up. You're sounding in fine form there, @streeter - Again, your own tone and grit really make it YOUR cover rather than a straight reworking of the original and it really, really suits the song.

Great work mate, you've inspired me a good few times on here already with your stuff so thank you for continuing to share!

Thanks so much guys... It really does mean a lot. Voice is one of those instruments that it is very easy to get down on yourself on, so i really appreciate the encouragement.

Thanks for your other comments as well. I think "making it your own' comes from learning the song, flat out, note for note, run for run, letting it rest a while, then just singing it. I ahh.... sang the verses in the wrong order. Im pretty sure i can hear my eye roll half way through the second verse haha.

Just on a tangent. For anyone else reading this, it really is worth keeping a soundlog from the very start (no matter how painful you think you are) because it is very easy to get discouraged. That way, you can look at it as a progression and be at least somewhat objective about it. As I wrote, it's very easy to get stuck in the 'I suck' frame of thinking. With voice especially, there seems to be only two categories for a lot of people... you either can sing or you can't. theres no in between. It's up to us to hear that 'In between' in order to get better.

@streeter that's the truth! Keeping a soundlog has been so important for me.

One, because recording my voice helps me (and anyone else listening after the fact) identify what I'm doing right and what needs work.

And two, because it reminds me how important the stepping stones are.

My girlfriend was just teasing me last week about sounding a little like I was drunk when i was singing. So I recorded it and yes, I sounded like I was failing a sobriety test. But I was focusing on learning to porn up the throat and keep from clipping things off with too much consonant enunciation, so of COURSE I sounded drunk.

It'll be a beautiful thing in a few years to go back and listen without any context and be like what even... how much did i have to drink that night lol
