Developing natural vibrato

Hey guys

I am working on developing my natural vibrato

I am currently on volume 2. I know we start on the whole tone oscilate by going above and beneath the flatline.
Eventually once we speed the oscilation up, the throat does begins to do it by itself naturally

I know that Ken recommended the ghosting exercise to help the voice go into a relaxed state.
When he does this is, his voice naturally oscillating in pitch or is manually controlling the pitch for the ghosting exercise?
I want to know if I am practicing this correctly?

My understanding of it (I'm also on vol 2) is that you don't go above the flatline. Only below, and back up to the "flatline". The explanation for that is because it takes more work to go up than to let it fall below in a relaxed state. If you are pushing above the root note (flatline) then it can't be a relaxed state because you have to push it to go up.

    Peace, Tony

Hi, @NeilD! You should follow these instructions to get into the student areas of the forums. There is a section on vibrato basics. http://forum.kentamplinvocalacademy.com/discussion/6859/how-to-get-access-to-the-ktva-student-areas-of-the-forums#latest

Hi Tony. My bad. Ken did mention to not go above flatline. Thanks for your explanation. When he mentions going above and below it, is he referring to going above and below in pitch? (Very new to alot of the terminology)

Yes, he is talking about pitch variation. Ken maintains that vibrato should start on pitch, and go down and come back up to correct pitch, over and over, not going above correct pitch.
