@highmtn @doc_ramadani @HuduVudu @victortang @Vocality @Klaus_T @Sophia @Gaston_Jauregui @Furious_Phil @blondiewales @juanmarivley @Wigs @Michael4000

This is a very cool song I decided to do, tell me what you think!
Of course, it has less harmonies than the original, but I think It's pretty good without that many.
I added a high harmony at the end.

Really good Diego very nice cover there well done, hit the higher notes with ease and in your own style.

Finally I get to criticize one of your recordings! (see folks, he is human)

Overall very nice, beautiful harmonies. But you definitely have a few pitch issues throughout this recording.

0:18 you went noticeably flat on the word "you".

0:26 "love" sounds great, you really nailed this high note

0:32 "did you" is off pitch

1:17 again you went noticeably flat on the word "you".

This recording has awesome emotion and dynamics. Very very well done Diego.

@victortang you are correct. I listened to the original and the word "you" is actually two pitches. I thought it was supposed to be one note but it's not. It's 2 and Diego hit it exactly how he was supposed to. So I stand corrected. Damn it Diego, can't you do something wrong for once??

Maybe hit those two pitches more crisply and distinctly so it doesn't sound like a slur (they are only a half step apart). That's all I got lol.

@Vocality Thank you!! That's what I was looking for.

@victortang I'm going to be listening like a hawk. Surely one day we we'll catch him making a mistake like the rest of us mere mortals.

Hahahhahahahahahahahhaah!!! You guys made me laugh. @Michael4000 thanks so much for the pointers!! I try my best not to go off pitch of course it happens to everyone. @victortang LOL. Thanks for saving me. Thought I was done for.

    Hi @Diego,

I am still in my Disco era so I am not used to such soft songs anymore, but ... damn, very good. Also I liked how you did the recordings. No clipping, no overdrive. Do you use LMMS now, like @HuduVudu suggested?

    Doc
  • HuduVuduHuduVudu 2.0 PRO Posts: 1,818
@doc_ramadani LMMS is only for MIDI it doesn't include sampling. Audacity is what is necessary for the sampling and @Diego is correct in using it. Audacity also has many other cool features like effects and spectrum analyzers. For tools that are free they are very good.

P.S. I only LMMS to build the various scales for my workout. If I need to do any kind of recording I use Audacity.

Ah, okay, I thought that LMMS can also be used for mixing. I never tried LMMS because I use Logic Pro X to track and mix.

Thabk you Doc! I just got Studio One so I'll be trying that real soon. @HuduVudu what do you think of the song/recording?
  • Michael4000Michael4000 STREAMING PRO Posts: 1,028
Diego did you confront any timing challenges being that this song is in 3/4?
  • DiegoDiego Moderator, 2.0 PRO, 3.0 Streaming Posts: 1,157
Not that I know of I think I just adapted without even noticing lol I was just so eager to try the song out!

@Diego, great job on both the singing and production! listening to this, I think you could try and do a Michael Jackson cover at some point, that would suit your voice very nicely I believe

Sometimes we all can be all over critical, daren't post any my songs at the moment, these guys would massacre my performance lol :D

@Vocality I don't think you should let the fear of criticism prevent you from posting songs. Diego is really, really good so we are allowed to be overly critical of him lol. Personally, I love getting critique because it makes me better. Hopefully someday as good as Diego.

I'm working on one. It takes me a while to get it to the point that I'm ready to post it. Also I've been spending a lot of time learning DAW (studio one-- which is awesome) and other new equipment I've recently purchased. I'm starting to get the hang of this technical stuff and then I do plan on getting back to posting songs more frequently. That's my favorite part.

I just got Studio One! I'm learning how to use it. Def. a step up from audacity. It's like starting from 0.

@Vocality I absolutely love Ken's course and I'm learning so much from it. I religiously do the exercises every single day. That said, there is a lot to be learned from doing a song beginning to end, and then getting critical feedback on it. I learn so many new things about my own voice and singing in general every time I do a song.

What I am finding a real help now is listening to the original song, sort of a guide where to start the song and how it builds vocally. I tend to get carried away little, so recon control is the way forward.

The problem I have at the moment voice is improving and jumping from track to track, I need to find a song and concentrate getting it right.

Going with my previous posts is there any suggestions on a suitable song I can concentrate on, doesn’t have to be a previous song I have done?

@Vocality choose a song that is comfortable within your range, any maybe slow and not too wordy. I think you should focus on just ONE verse/part of the song for now, and post it for feedback.

@Michael4000 @doc_ramadani Biffy Clyro is a good band but might be a little difficult at this stage, thought on queen crazy little thing called love. Sound not too difficult well within my range I recon.

    Any other suggestions

@Vocality I can't really tell if your pitch is on, because your timing is way off. This causes a de-sync with the backing track and makes you sound off pitch even if your not (I don't know if you are or are not).

I normally run through a song about 20 to 30 times before I try the karaoke version i.e. just the backing track. This does two things it gets me in tune with how the singer intended the song and it gets me comfortable with the timing. The most important thing for me is to be comfortable singing the song, and that requires a LOT of repetition. If you really want to get the song down you need lots and lots of reps, so much so that you could literally do the song in your sleep. Don't forget to record yourself singing after the initial set of reps so that you can evaluate the trouble areas and get those fixed as you move forward to just singing with the backing track.

    Maybe that can help? :)
  • Michael4000Michael4000 STREAMING PRO Posts: 1,028
@Vocality this is very low in pitch. The last note is an Eb2 which is very low. Freddie Mercury did it in the key of D but an octave higher. So that lowest note "love" is a D3. Can you please re-post in this key so we can re-evaluate it?
  • VocalityVocality 2.0 PRO Posts: 1,606
    @HuduVudu

Yes I agree beginning to move listening to the original tracks gives the true representation, with the same token want to put my own stamp on a song dont want it sounding exactly like the original. Now time to begin lose the crutch on karaoke tracks, finding they do differ from the original and can be unreliable.

Need to find good quality backing tracks that I can rely on and I guess thats the flip side doing your own song it's embedded from the start.

Aha the karaoke track is written in Eb could that probably explains a few issues here lol!!!

@Vocality you could actually use that karaoke track in Eb. It's only a half step above the original. You just have to make sure you sing it up an octave higher than you were.
  • VocalityVocality 2.0 PRO Posts: 1,606
@Michael4000 okay up the octave try again, but will try out karaoke version thanks.

"Kiss From a Rose" is another fave song of mine, and I think you did a decent job. Its much better than I could do, with all the high whispers and echoes.

@Moviefan2k4 I want to do this one again. I feel I can do much better than last time. I wasn't familiar with this song as much as now!
