And when I sing a scale, or a musical phrase, how often should I bounce inward on my diaphragm? Or should I just try to glide and yawn while holding my breath?
Similar question re how to practice holding a note or arpeggios for long periods of time-- Should I just hold my breath like I'm under water, or should I push in at various times with my diaphragm?

I don't think you bounce your diaphragm... It should be a steady action, and you push down a little harder when going to the highest notes. You also aren't really holding your breath. It should be a consistent exhale, with a bright timbral sound, and it should be breathy.

I hope that helped, Ive been doing V1 for about 16 weeks now. @doc_ramadani do you have any advice, and maybe fact check me! Thank you sir :)

    Hi @Jourdan11,

thanks for tagging me. You are nearly correct the first part

It should be a steady action, and you push down a little harder when going to the highest notes.
.We want to keep consistent pressure on the diaphragm to support. The abdominal walls follows inwards as we sing to maintain the pressure on the diaphragm.

On the next point you are correct too: we are not really holding all our breath since we need some air to phonate. But we want to hold back the air the best we can.

On the next point I must tell you that this is wrong: we DO NOT want to sound breathy. We want have good resonance with nearly no breathiness in it.

    Hope this helps,
    Doc

Thank you for this question and the responses. I just enrolled in the course about 2 weeks ago and I had the same question.

Any additional exercises for learning how to sustain a note more than 15 seconds?

@SusanFr breath management and conserving air will go along way to helping you hold those notes. Try being very soft on the sound until you get strength and stamina.
