Waaaay better in every respect! This is what I expect from an acoustic version, something different that pays homage to the original. Still think about not being so pointed on the I in "living", and for my own pure selfish listening pleasure, what do you think about putting a tiny key change after the big pause near the end?

Overall I would really enjoy listening to this if I was in an intimate bar. 👍🏼

@Chris82 @sjonrokz4u thanks! I thought it was better. I have a question I'd like to ask everyone:

I had to explain to my brother that i was intentionally using rasp/distortion on the high notes, he thought I was just struggling to hit them them and my voice was breaking up. I do this on a lot of my songs and I'm wondering if it's coming across to listeners as a struggle rather than what I am intending it to be. What do you think, should i dial this back a bit?

The only time I think there was real strain was the word living. While I agree with @coffeecrank , it should be taken into consideration that most people listening wouldn't have the same level of understanding and it would be our job as performers to try present the song so for them it wouldn't sound like we are straining.

There is also a possibility that while you are effectively able to use the technique, the nuances and ability to blend it seemlessly with your tone is still going to take some time. We know what you are doing and how, but since the audience doesnt, it's mistaken for strain.

Anyway these are just my musings 🙂

People may tell you that you are straining when you are not, if they interpret the distorted sound as oversinging. Oversinging IS bad for your voice, but you can get distortion at safe volume levels that really isn't getting into the levels that would be bad for the voice.

They don't realize that the distortion is fooling them into thinking you are blasting, giving it all you've got and about to blow out your voice, when in fact you're just adding a little more buzz to the sound, at a very reasonable volume level.

There is no need to go full-on into distortion. A little bit goes a long way. Why make people think you are blowing out your voice, even if you really aren't? Their brain is telling them "Bad for the Voice, about to Blow up!"

So good distortion should be more of a blend of clean with just enough distortion to detect. Season to taste, but don't drop the salt shaker into the soup.

@Michael4000 sounds great, the story comes across much better now I think. i was about to ask if you could do a version without rasp, but then i read further and saw you already posted it.

what do you think about the rasp vs no rasp? I think it does not need the rasp, it sounds good without it, and would save you the "straining" comments

but then, if you like it better, i would also not worry too much about people worrying about you oversinging, if you aren't...

just an idea: i though that the bridge could speed up a tiny bit, and/or get more powerful (maybe in the voice, but maybe just hitting the keys a bit harder. not much just for additional contrast.

@Klaus_T thanks for this. I think that the rasp is good if used judiciously. I can see it coming across as strain on high notes (even though it's not) so I will watch for that from now on. I like Bob's analogy about seasoning and salt.

Which part are you referring to as the bridge? I don't see this song as having a bridge...does it?

It is a beautiful rendition especially the keys. As a noobe it feels to me like you are holding back and I want you to go for it somewhere really go out there and be daring. Feels really safe. But it is so nice. I enjoyed it and am impressed with your technique and talent.

@jmstanle thank you and welcome to ktva! It is a great program. I've made so much progress. You have to just keep at it and be disciplined and follow the program, and keep going even when you feel discouraged.
