How Do You Practice Vocals Quietly Without Losing Proper Technique?

I’ve seen some singers use a pillow, closet practice, straw phonation, semi-occluded vocal exercises, or a voice dampener/mute-style tool when they need to practice quietly. I came across this type of voice dampener.
Curious if anyone has tried tools like this, and whether they affect breath support, resonance, or vocal placement.

I’ve used one like this and it worked well when on vacation for a few months in Europe:

The noise reduction is very good and can be used on-stage as well to keep warming up during sound checks.
I don’t consider it to be a semi-occluded tool but suppose it could be used for that by blocking the air exit.
