Today is my third year anniversary with KTVA. Sadly, life has been busy so I didn't have much time to prepare. Instead, I decided to revisit this song because it was a blast singing with many other people in a collab on it. I still have a long way to go but the journey so far has been amazing.
@Rick_amateur it is amazing to see your consistency with posting videos EVERY WEEK! I love that. Where in the course you right now. I'd like to see you improve quicker. Can you post an updated video of you doing the AH vowel? Let's work on mastering those fundamentals and getting you to open your mouth wide and hide the bright ping. Then, as we master other fundamentals we can begin to focus on making sure those are transferred over to your singing. When listening to these covers of yours, listen with a fresh ear (leave and come back in 24hrs) to better critique yourself. I wrote an article about Self-Awareness singing that helps us singers basically be our own coaches and be more objective with how we see our singing.
A lot of people can learn from you leading by example posting covers weekly. Keep up the great work!
@michaelmusic Thanks for listening and for the kind words! I can try posting an updated video of me doing the AH vowel tomorrow if I find the time. I don't disagree with your assessment regarding my fundamentals. I personally feel that I'm still figuring things out, even if it's at a slower rate. I'm still hovering between volume 2 and 3 because there are things I'm not happy with and need time to figure them out. I'd be happy to get some feedback on what I'm lacking with the fundamentals and I'll be sure to take a read of your article. Thanks!
Hello Rick, thanks for sharing. Are you looking for feedback? If so, I like tagging participants to get some eyes on this.
There's an issue with control here. Also when you get to higher notes you are raising your larynx. I believe still working on those fundamentals is important. It's like when you are doing the LAH AH exercise you are not opening up the mouth all the way and giving that really bright brassy ping sound. That is the foundation that helps you place the sound in the throat correctly.
I practice 30min everyday focusing on 1 variable that I want to improve. I will change to a new variable I want to improve every few weeks. For example right now I am working on improving my Vibrato. Before that I was focusing on diaphragmatic support for a month. There's a lot to singing so I try to improve one area at a time.
I an certainly open to feedback! I'm also using this as a way to look back at how my singing was and what I still need to work on.
I don't disagree with my fundamentals needing help. At the same time, I'm also fighting the issue where I use too much air. Still trying to find the balance that would solve both issues and that's been a work in progress.
Currently, I'm working more on breath control. I've been told I use a lot of air so I've been trying to fix that. I'm probably suffering in other aspects as you noticed. I do agree that there are lots to singing and it's not a simple task.
