When I sing with breath support and a neutral larynx it sounds like I am squeezing?

I realized that whenever I sing with "breath support" (at least I think that I sing with support, I can feel my abdominal muscles engage when I sing) it feels like my throat is closed and I have to "press" the air throuhg my vocal cords. It feels unusual and it sounds like I am squeezing, but my throat is not straining. Other times when I sing like that, only air comes out. I always used to sing by straining my swallowing muscles, so it is a very strange feeling to sing like that.
Is this what is meant by singing with support or am I doing something wrong?

Welcome to the KTVA forum from the UK.
If were pinching or squeezing somethings not quite correct, when we take a diaphragmatic breath, we keep the chest extended say 1/2 to 3/4, take the breath in lower abdominal area moves out and when we sing song or a scale. We then pull in with strength we hold that support until we finished phrase or scale. Then we should have the relaxation response and take the next breath. It's important we relax in between these breaths otherwise we get tensed up.
It takes practice and time to adjust to the techniques, KTVA course is structured to improving all aspects of singing and you will get access to student part of the forum which has comprehensive area covering all aspect of singing.

I am a student so I dont have enough money for the course. The problem with tensing the whole time could be right, I will look at it when Im singing.
I am aware of that I dont tense my abs, so this probably is not the problem.
