Over all it's good but I'd make a few tweaks in your technique. There's a scooping raised larynx in the opening line. You do well to pare back the sound as you go into your upper register but you still hang onto too much of the pure vowel so there is a bit of strain there. For example the word break has too much on an ih sound in it up that high.

I didn't like it very much. I don't think it's your singing but the song, because I listened to the original too and didn't like that either. I do like some of Petty's songs but this isn't one of them unfortunately. I think your singing was just fine though!
