I wish I didn't have over 28c (82f) (in apartment) when I do the exercises... I can't afford any aircon...

@david1552 , you should be grateful! Here in Malaysia, it's a constant 30c ~ 36c throughout the year. It goes down to 26~28c sometimes at night!

@kokonuht  , yes I just find it harder to focus on the singing when I have 28-35c in my little studio/singing booth... so how do you focus in that heat?
  • KokonuhtKokonuht Member, Enrolled Posts: 658
I don't I suppose, pretty much used to it. Lived with it for 19 years now! Hahaha! That might've helped :P. Possible try a fan or like try to cool the room in some possible way?

you could always sing in the middle of the night..... just playin ;)

I had an eventful day. kids are getting ready for school.
Time for clothes, backpacks, and school supplies.
Still have to make time to do some lessons today- most probably in the middle of the night (no pun intended hahahaha)

@bigbrother :) yes, actually I wouldn't mind singing in the night, but I do think my neighbors do :(

Just bought tickets to Ed Kowalczyk... haven't seen him since he was playing in the band Live...
Going to see Slayer tomorrow and meet up with some friends...

Pics or it didn't happen hahahaha.

I'm glad Slayer is going to continue making noise after they lost Jeff. Many times bands never recover.
Should be one hell of a show.

Yesterday I saw Slayer and even though Jeff "Heineken" Hanneman (RIP) was greatly missed I thought that Slayer did a great intense show!

Next up : Jack Black and Kyle Gass in Tenacious D :)

    thanks kokonuht, appreciate it.

well, just did my exercises, its 4:37am here, eyes are heavy.

i vowed not to miss any days if possible.

i still think its better than doing double work the next day to get back where we left off. if i miss a day, its like i have to do the same exercise two or three times to get it decent.

It's no surprise that you get what you want with this... after more than 7months into KTVA I'm still on vol1. but also doing some chest stretching on vol2. I don't want to rush through the volumes (as I did in the beginning with vol.1) What I want to say with this is: If you really do the exercises everyday at least 1 hour 6 days/week you'll notice big difference no doubt about that. I think that  after aprox. 1 year I will have the proper foundation to build on for more serious singing with vol2. and vol3. I've had my lazy days during this 7month period and ofcourse that affected my ability to improve my voice. We all stand at different stages when we enter the KTVA world...  The best motivator for me is that I know the improvement when I'm doing the exercises regularly everyday :)

    well,
Now im chillin IN San Antonio. I got a chance to sing out here in a club with some friends that were doing a show.
I'm supposed to sing again tonight.

FORTUNATELY, the people i met here party WAY TOO HARD, but i managed to stay up longer than they did...
as a matter of fact, i just got to my room after the all nighter.
Its was a trip watching what people will do when they are partying.
I admit, I did drink plenty... of water ;^)

@steven kindig  it wouldve been a trip :)

Its a lot of work to sing every day. I am definitely glad i am doing the warm-ups before each night begins and if i hadn't, it certainly could have hurt my vox. I can also tell how much stamina there is and how its increasing a bit more each night. I learned to have more respect for everyday vocalists that are out there singing nightly.

    @johnjohn,

Yes, it's really nice when someone in the audience goes out of their way to get your attention because they feel compelled to tell you they really, really like your singing, and you smile and they say "No, I REALLY, REALLY like your voice".  That's really nice...

But it's even nicer when we ourselves realize we just got over that hump we've been working at getting over for the last how many months?  When we realize that those impossible high notes we thought we'd never hit start coming more and more easily and clearly and consistently... That's when we can tell OURSELVES "No, I mean I REALLY, REALLY like what is happening to MY VOICE!!!

    That's what I'M Talkin' about!

Waddaya say, my KTVA Bruthas and Sistahs???

Good for you, @bigbrother.  I feel your pain...  I gave up coffee last week and it's KILLING me.  Not really, just a shock to my system.  I realized that I've been dehydrating myself with too much diuretic intake.

Nursing a tall cup of coffee after nursing another tall cup of coffee, day after day, just isn't good for the vocal cords.

My vocal cords are thanking me.  I'm on a hydration quest, now!

Your lungs will thank you, bigbrother!

I am sure you will feel more comfortable with yourself if you consume poached eggs.

This is because the choline containing the egg yolk is an important substance for the nervous system.

That way you can stop drinking coffee or smoking at will because you will not have "anxiety". This "anxiety" is actually a deficiency of vitamins and minerals in my belief.

When the egg yolk is cooked but liquid, is the right time to eat your eggs.
If the egg yolk liquid is not have to worry in relation to excess dietary cholesterol or heart problems or problems with the arteries as cholesterol in this state has not rusted in my belief.

This implies cook for up to 6 minutes after water bubbles.

    I usually eat 5 a day because I like a lot!

If the bug is the same one several of my kids had couple months ago, it's a six weeker.
You can get past how the voice functions, but the phlegm may go on and on.

    imho...
Its the aggressive dry coughing that slams the vocal cords together which can cause irritation, and sometimes damage.

So, Mucinex, minimal caffeine, a steamer (avoid dry over-heated rooms), lots of fluids, and maybe keep some kind of hard candy in the mouth to keep juices flowing, but nothing with menthol. Sleep on a slant, so that night-time cough does not trigger the irritation and more damage.

Probably the same as this has ongoing for over a month...  The coughing during the night kills my cords...

I've gathered all the pillows I could find, that should do the trick :)

I've been a hard menthol addict for weeks... maybe that's not going to help my cords...

    Thanks for the help @bigbrother

Boy.. i have to say that there are some damn good singers here in Miami.
I went to a latin restaurant last night for some grub, only to be surprised there was a super happenin karaoke party inside. The jig was damn near out of control... I had my karaoke gang with me and we put up our names in the list of 30 singers. I think there were only 2 guys that were almost awful, the rest were good and a few above the top excellent.
I was fortunate my hard work paid off and I was able to hang and break it down like a chemical reaction. First time ive ever seen a restaurant full of people get up and start dancing... almost shocked me and made loose focus for a sec hahahaha.
    (edit)
If anyone is close by, check out El Meson De La Cava restaurant friday nights... heres the info. 13804 SW 56 St. Miami, Fl 33175 (305)387-8866

    just a guess Steven ...
"Charlie Brown" is a popular Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller song that was a top-ten hit for The Coasters in the spring of 1959 (released in January, coupled with "Three Cool Cats," Atco 6132).[1] It went to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts, and was the first of three top-ten hits for the Coasters that year. It is best known for the phrase, "Why's everybody always pickin' on me?"

Ok, that's the strange thing for me that some days I can sing forever it seems and other days I'm exhausted from nothing...
and sometimes my voice wants 2 days off... but I guess that's how it's supposed to be in the progress?!

I haven't got my tax check yet but I'm getting nervous. I will be getting a lesson with Ken. I've been working more with vowel Mods for Ah. It's the Law! in the back of the throat. I'm noticing my knot in the back of the throat is going away. I thought was from smoking and drinking my favorite drink Mountain Dew. I was obviously straining without realizing it. I started using an e-cigarette and at karaoke Friday i found i had so much more strength in my voice. I hope Ken can be an early bird and have a lesson about 7-9am in the morning for me it will be more like 11am-12pm  because of the 3 hr difference in time maybe a hour or so after because the kids will be at school and the house will be empty. I work 3rds so i will already be awake don't go to sleep til like 2-6 pm never know when i really get to sleep lol.
I hope Ken can streamline me in the right direction. as of right now my resonance is all over the place trying to understand this stuff. I never had any professional training of any kind so I'm clueless but sticking to going over the volume 1 cd over and over. picking up things little by little. so when i ask silly questions its from lack of understanding.

    thx for everyone's help
    keep singing keep growing

I went to the Bahamas on valentines weekend.
My friend Manny had a gig there as an Elvis imoersonator. He had to make 2 costume changes during the show and needed me to perform during intermission.
I was asked to impersonate Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly. I felt it would be outstanding because Feb was the month they passed away due to a plane flight gone wrong.

I seen my chance to try and revive the day the music died... on a small but beautiful Island called Bimini.

Live from World Resort and Casino in Bimini... I present

    My tribute to Ritchie Valens

    My tribute to Buddy Holly

I must say, it is always a blast to sing tribute to great artists like them.

Ok @bigbrother i learn i was supporting if at all wrong. I felt that @highmtn was standing next to me saying support support support. Ken Brightened up my timbre and gave me a great kick start for growing my voice.

then i went out sang karaoke tonight. and over did myself. I felt a nice twinge of pain so i had to quit singing. my voice still sounds good with a nice law. but if i go up in pitch i can feel it. Wondering besides letting my voice heal. will this grow back stronger or will i always have this problem?
  • highmtnhighmtn Administrator, Moderator, Enrolled, Pro, 3.0 Streaming Posts: 15,380

    @Steven Kindig

Always remember, when you are feeling strong, do not oversing.  It's easy to do.

You are finding strength and finding support.  Now find caution and wisdom.

    Yes!  Support, Support, Support!

    Easy does it, too!

You will heal and you will grow!

    This is AWESOME.

I know right where your coming from too. Its like you feel you can really push... and that exactly what not to do.
I remember a friend telling me " you don't need a shotgun to kill a tweety bird"

That being said, one of my best nights was when I used caution and was able to keep going quite a long while.
One of my worst, I pushed and pushed till i felt the pain and i finally gave out. It took me a week or so to recover.

Keep your head up, use support and fight the good fight, we're doing it for the right cause :)

    Best of luck bro

  • bigbrotherbigbrother Pro Posts: 104
    Oh Lordy Lordy... hahaha.
Thanks @highmtn, and Thanks for asking @Steven Kindig

I'm already on an adventure. I'm one week in to be exact... which is why I haven't answered ;)

    I'm back in Miami.

I only came in to get some tires and make some repairs on my car.
Fooled around and sang at a restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale and I got scouted again (yay!)

It was "Famous Faces Talent Agency".
They got me to send them photos and vids of my Prince tribute.
Next thing i know I had to come in on Tuesday to fill out paperwork.
No big deal right? Uh-Uh... We sit down and start talkin about my bounty hunting adventures and that lead to a lot more talk.
    Great bunch they are too.
Well in comes a message thru the computer. They needed some to cast in a reality show..."South Beach Tow".
It had to be someone with long hair, a corvette, and an attitude... all of a sudden all eyes are on me. I'm like: "what, I can do that" LMDAO.

That day I went to casting call, did my thing in an improvised exchange on camera. All went well but I dont think I got nasty enough. It was funny though, I had the lady laughing during the exchange.

This morning I got a call again. The agency got me a corporate gig on may 24 to do a tribute as Prince.

Sang this without warming up. It was just so darn busy that day I couldn't get it in.

    Today I am in Mississippi.

I had recertification classes on tuesday for my bail bonding license.
Today I had to catch up my weekly reports and payroll for the employees. I am 6 weeks behind.

I also took time this morning to play with the kids and make some breakfast. Always a handful, but i certainly love the kids!

This Saturday, I'll be in New Orleans.
Its audition day for NBC The Voice.
I don't expect to be a new great thing: But I do demand that this be a learning experience. I also want to meet and greet as many other singers as time will allow.

    Wish me luck.

    the voice experience...
    image
starts with a line of people...
    image
which turns into 5 lines of people
    image
    image
which becomes a group of people
    image
and then a line of 10 people.
    image
I seen a great photo op...
    image
    so i snagged it!
    image
then on to a conference room to sing.
    I didn't make the cut. :(

I was kinda mad. I heard some of the people that did make it. There were much better singers that didnt make it.

So I thought... Hmm maybe they want a character and a singer?

And Off I went to Washington DC with vengeance and furious intent. I wasn't about to give up that easy ;)
    image
    and more lines
    image
And One more for good measure!
    image
Could you believe I got the same judge twice?
And again I was not picked!

    SMH...

Screw this... i'mma go see some sights!

I think all the pushing on my diaphragm is allowing me to get better at floating on my back at the lake lol. My legs are almost staying afloat.
