61 years young and just getting started

in INTRODUCE YOURSELF
Hi everyone, I am a young 61 and have played in bands all through the 80's primarily as a bass player. I got fed up with dealing with egotistical singers that were not willing to work as hard as the rest of the band and left the business. My old guitar player still wails and has continued on playing in cover bands and my old drummer is still playing with Dream Theater. I knew I had a good band then, but ended up quitting because we could not find a singer that shared our musical vision. I had the opportunity to retire this year and the #1 item on my bucket list is to learn how to sing correctly and maybe get back to playing in some classic rock cover bands and maybe even taking the lead vocals on some tunes. I'm on day 15 of the course and already learning all sorts of cool things about singing I never knew before.

    Hi @BasilJ ! I've been doing the course for more than 6 months and started to learn to play the bass 2,5 years ago. I figured that if I could bring another instrument to the band and not "just" singing I'd be a better catch. 😊 Along the journey I've learned that both take a lot more time to master than I would hope for. 😅 But I love to sing so need to cherish the road to where we're heading, enjoy the ride.

    You already have the bass skills ready. 👌 Posting here your scales early on is a good idea so you get feedback. At least for me it has been hard to know if I'm doing things right and what I should concentrate on and i have gotten instructions here

    Thanks. What's the best way to record yourself? Iphone? I'm not sure how to do it. Also I still hate the sound of my own voice, even though when I sing, my family says i sound pretty good. I like the rock singers, but i am going to try to learn o sing as cleanly as possible before I start to do any distortion.

    @BasilJ I record with my phone 🤳. Easy enough 😊 then you need to upload the recording to YouTube, SoundCloud or similar and link it in your post here. There are good instructions on the pinned posts, I found them very useful.

    And when you get it done for the first time, the next time will be easier. But first get your student status as Klaus suggested earlier.
